The mussel grotto on Jungfernsee is one of the last surviving, independent grotto architectures. The true beauty of the grotto is not recognizable from the outside and quite so wanted. In the past, the shell grotto was magnificently equipped. Today, the interior of the shell grotto resembles a mixture of ruins and construction site, but the remains of the once elaborate decorations still hint at the former beauty.
