The Protestant church towers over Lindenplatz in the center of Ellmendingen. The Arnbach stream flows through the village. A large fountain/watering hole, a mobile wine press, and a group of statues reflect the wine theme.A very beautiful village with many old houses. There are also guest rooms here, but no hotels. There's a lot to discover. Take your time!

Historically grown square in the center of the village with a large, shady tree. The Arnbach, with its small bridges, which is decorated with flowers in summer, complements the beautiful ensemble.

Information about the Protestant Church/St. Barbara's Church: This is a former fortified church with a churchyard (formerly a cemetery) enclosed by a church wall. The oldest mention dates back to around 1100; it has been a parish church since 1170. The oldest part of the church still standing today is the lower part of the tower (reference to the year 1404 on the southeast corner).Starting in 1522 (the year above the west portal), the new, larger nave was built. Around 1600, Gothic tracery windows were carved out in the choir and on the south side of the nave. In the 18th century, the tower was raised, and in the 19th century, additional windows were carved out in the western part of the nave. The first signs of the Reformation were already evident in 1523 – at that time, the church belonged to the Hirsau and Herrenalb monasteries. Protestant sermons have officially been preached in the Ellmendingen church since 1556.
In 1894, the interior of the church was fundamentally redesigned. A gallery was added around the west, north, and east walls (above the chancel arch). The pews were aligned toward the south wall in the style of a preacher's church. The east gallery was the first to be removed in 1940.During the last major renovation of the church between 1990 and 1992, the north gallery, which protruded far into the church, was removed, and the pews were all aligned toward the choir area, where the altar and pulpit now occupy their traditional positions.Source: 3sam-kirchengemeinde.de/kirchen-gebaeude
You can borrow a key to the church from the parish office opposite the church entrance Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; otherwise, the church is usually closed unless a service is in progress.
