The former monastery and collegiate church of St. Peter, known as Fritzlar Cathedral, is located in the small town of Fritzlar in the Schwalm-Eder district (previously: Fritzlar-Homberg district) in northern Hesse, about 25 km south of Kassel. It is considered to be one of the most important Romanesque churches in Hesse. The founding of a church and monastery around 722 by Bonifatius became the starting point for the urban development of Fritzlar.
