Formerly a monastery church, today a parish church: with its rich history and Romanesque design, the Fritzlar Cathedral is a very important church. In addition, the cathedral has had the papal honorary title of "Basilica minor" since 2004.

The former monastery and collegiate church of St. Peter, known as Fritzlar Cathedral, is located in the small town of Fritzlar in the Schwalm-Eder district (previously: Fritzlar-Homberg district) in northern Hesse, about 25 km south of Kassel. It is considered to be one of the most important Romanesque churches in Hesse. The founding of a church and monastery around 722 by Bonifatius became the starting point for the urban development of Fritzlar. The current cathedral, which is around 55 m high up to the top of the tower, is the center of the city and shapes the cityscape.
