The monastery is located in the Val di Non, the most extensive valley of Trentino. The Hermitage of San Romedio (St. Romedius) is one of the most interesting monuments of medieval Christian art in Trentino. The pilgrimage site rises on a 70 m high limestone cliff and consists of several churches and chapels, which adapt to the rock form. The oldest church was built around the year 1000 on the tomb of St. Romedius. A spectacular pilgrimage route carved out of the rock leads up to the sanctuary, ascending from Sanzeno.

The Sanctuary and Sanctuary of San Romedio is certainly one of the most recognizable places of pilgrimage not only of Trentino but of all Europe.
