Hiking Highlight
The August-Schuster-Haus or "Pürschlinghaus" is located on the ridge of the same name at an altitude of 1,564 meters. The hut is open all year round with the exception of April and November.
From there, hiking trails lead to the Teufelstättkopf (45 minutes) or the Sonnenberg (one hour) and transitions to the Brunnenkopfhütte (two to three hours) in the Ettaler Forst.
The Pürschlingshaus can be reached from Unterammergau in about two hours, from Oberammergau via the Kolbensattel in about two hours and from Linderhof Palace in about two to three hours. The food offered in the hut is good, down-to-earth and of a commendable price-performance ratio. However, the hut is also very popular, so that a high level of public traffic must be expected, especially in the warmer months of the year.

Great for gaining strength for the way to the summit. But otherwise very comfortable

Super nice staff and food and drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. We stayed for one night and the sanitary facilities were renovated. There are no showers.

The Pürschling houses are the former hunting lodges of Wittelsbach King Max II Joseph (1811 - 1864), the father of the fairy tale king Ludwig II (1845 - 1886)

The August Schuster Haus directly below the Pürschling is definitely worth a detour. Nice service, good beer and great cake. The insider tip is the homemade goulash soup - very tasty😋 Only Kaiserschmarrn is served here - as it is not a former hunting lodge owned by King Ludwig 😊
