It's up and down, or down and up, between these two villages. The route takes you past the reservoir itself but it offers up two challenging climbs if you're traversing between the two picturesque villages.

Going from Balcombe to Ardingly it's the second climb which is tougher.
However, there is a decent Hovis bakers at Ardingly which makes it worth it.

At the time of writing (November 2022) there has been a lot of rain so there is a lot of grot and surface water in both valleys, not to mention overhanging bamboo - take care - there will always be cars around.
