Cycling UK ride to Shoreham and Handcross from Hassocks
A great Cycling UK trip. Starting in Shoreham, so I had to get there first, which is a pretty trip in itself down the back of the Downs along Poynings, Fulking and Edburton, before going down the Adur valley on the Downslink in the company of several flocks of swans.

Hassocks-Nymans-Ardingley
This is a great way to visit Nymans, particularly when it's busy and the car park is full! The off road section through Slaugham is good in summer but gravelly. It goes through a private estate and is a lovely shady ride. And the whole route is pretty chill apart…

From Chichester to Hassocks
This trip was born of a desire to take my bike on the Itchenor ferry - so we took the train to Chichester and cycled back, swinging through the historic city centre and Bosham first.
Plus points -
Chichester is well worth a nose and is pretty accessible by bike.…

Hassocks - Ashdown Forest loop
Following the main road to Ditchling this route then takes you along increasingly small mainly wooded lanes up to the lovely village of Horsted Keynes, gradually increasing altitude. The road then swoops down through the two fords of Twyford before climbing sharply back through the Ashdown Forest to Wych Cross.…

From Hassocks along the Downs then up to Bob Lane
This is a nice gentle 30 miler that benefits from a good long stretch bobbing up and down at the bottom of the chalk Downs before curving inland along the delightfully small and generally very quiet Clappers Lane, Blackstone Lane and Wineham and Twineham. Clappers and Blackstone are particularly good…

From Saxlingham to Wells next the Sea, Holkham Park and Burnham loop
This is quite an astonishing ride. To begin with there are the enormous wide skies and empty roads (unheard of in Sussex). Then there are the many fields of Queen Anne's Lace, Ragwort, Scabious, Field Bindweed, and others.
And then you can add in the really special bits. For wildlife,…

This area is, in my view, one of the prettiest in the world. Whether you want hilltop villages, dramatic cliffs, birds of prey, or magical spring flowers, this has it all.

This route is about as perfect as the roads allow. There is very little heavy traffic on it - though some of the roads are decidedly pot-holey - and there are long lovely stretches of woodland, pastures and shrubby gorseland.
The hill of the day is Kidds Hill, which is a corker. It has a number of kinks

Nice to meet you on the ride it was great fun. Also great to discover that cafe at Ashdown Forest. They did say they thought they would be doing other food soon which is handy to know. Also that umbrella was amazing at the cafe - Garden goals! :)
