Franzensburg Castle

06/13/2022 - #51 - In the castle park, former court building Emperor Franz had this "treasury of Austria" built from 1798 - 1801 in accordance with the ideas of romantic classicism and gave it its name. Extensions in the form of the Knappenhof (today: Café Meierei) and the new Bailiwick (today: Museum Shop) were completed by 1835 under the direction of the castle captain Michael Riedl. Conceived from the outset as a museum and as a representative area, the interior is richly decorated with wooden coffered ceilings, leather wallpaper, marble floors and numerous pieces of furniture.
