The Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald shows exhibits on geological history, pieces from 14,000 years of Pomeranian regional studies as well as paintings, including by Caspar David Friedrich, and many other historical cultural assets.
The museum was built from 1998 to June 2005. The construction costs amounted to 20 million euros. It consists of an ensemble of four buildings: the classical Quistorp building (former city school), the gray monastery (former poor and old people's home), the brick building of the library of the Gothic Franciscan monastery and the Museum Street. The ensemble also includes a monastery garden and a meadow with Scandinavian boulders.

In the Croy Hall you can see the four by seven meter large, unique Croÿ carpet, an artistic testimony to the Reformation. The development of the Ernst Moritz Arndt University is also documented on the basis of numerous exhibits.

The Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald was built between 1998 and 2005 and consists of four outdoor areas and six houses. The museum is located just a few hundred meters from St. Mary's Church and the historic market, right next to the ramparts.It has exhibits from Pomeranian regional and cultural history as well as numerous paintings, including those by Caspar David Friedrich. Art treasures and collections from the Ernst Moritz Arndt University also have their place in this museum.The permanent exhibitions of the Pomeranian State Museum consist of three parts.The tour begins in the Grey Monastery with the exhibition on the geological history of Pomerania. Here it is shown how the landscape of Pomerania was formed over millions of years. The exhibition on regional history provides an insight into the eventful history of Pomerania.In the classicist Quistorp building, the picture gallery presents around 200 top-class works by internationally outstanding masters such as Frans Hals, Caspar David Friedrich, Philipp Otto Runge, Vincent van Gogh and Max Liebermann on 1,100 m².Near Binz on Rügen, in the Granitz hunting lodge, there is a branch of the Pomeranian State Museum.greifswald.m-vp.de/pommersches-landesmuseum-greifswald
