"The existence of a Greifswald University Library has been documented since 1604. The collections were housed in numerous educational buildings and later also in today's auditorium of the university's main building." From 1880 to 1882, the library building in Rubenowstraße was designed by architects Martin Gropius (1824-1880 ) and Heino Schmieden (1835-1913).
Today, the "Old Library" holds numerous special collections, including the "Pomeranica", which contains 30,000 volumes related to Pomerania, the "Altes Buch" collection of works from the beginnings of printing until 1850 and the History Library. The reading room has 35 seats. "Source: greifswald.de/de/historisches-erbe/denkmal/universitaet/alte-universitaetsbibliothek
