Because this is where the house of the Meissen nuns stood in the Middle Ages, after whom the stepped path also got its name.
The nuns, or beghines, were a Christian community of single women and girls who earned their living by doing housework and tending tombs. - So they took care of the "soul salvation" of the deceased through the latter; hence the popular name "soul nuns". Hiking
One of the many stairways between the old town and the castle hill. The Seelensteig is also the shortest connection between the Triebisch valley and the freedom and the castle hill. The letter stone is particularly interesting here - a baroque sandstone relief that shows the letters A, B, C and D intertwined and from which all the other letters of the Latin alphabet can be read with a little imagination.
