On the loop around the Eggesiner See you pass a wild and romantic alder forest. Here the soil is constantly saturated with water. The quarry forest is named after the black alder. Like no other tree species, it can withstand underwater with its roots. The quarry forest is the most beautiful sight in May and June, when the irises unfold their magnificent yellow flowers.
