Until the time after the Second World War, the Rote Höhenvieh shaped livestock farming in the low mountain ranges. Today it is threatened with extinction. A decent herd of these undemanding majestic animals can still be found in Silberborn. They are out in the pastures year-round and also give birth to their young outdoors.
