hagen
The Hagen is an ecologically valuable, species-rich habitat. It is listed as an area or garden monument in the district monument list and is part of the city's monument area. In particular, the northern part is protected as a wet biotope. Rare plants and animals settle there. The Hagen is mowed only twice a year.In the 19th century, the so-called "Bleiche" and the municipal baths were located on the northern edge. Numerous oaks and beeches that are several hundred years old form the oak promenade and border the Hagen on one side.
This avenue must have existed as early as the Thirty Years' War, as the view of the town of Merian from around 1650 suggests.
The Hagen itself was regularly flooded by the high waters of the Stepenitz and was a natural obstacle in the Middle Ages as a swampy area in front of the city. In the meantime, the inner-city green area has become a very popular recreational area.buergerverein-perleberg.de/hagen.htm
