About 2,000 years ago, a boy died under unclear circumstances and was sunk into the moor. It was not until 1922 that his remains were found while digging peat. The bog body is exhibited in the Natural History Museum in Oldenburg.

The top layer of peat, approximately 50–60 cm thick, had already been removed at the site using the moor burning method. On July 3, 1922, the peat cutter Roggemann, while working in the Kayhausen Moor, came across a lower leg bone and pieces of a fur cape from the boy lying on his back about 120 cm below the surface. He completely uncovered the body and informed the representative of the Sandstede Museum in Bad Zwischenahn, who passed the news on to J. Martin, the director of the State Museum of Natural History and Prehistory in Oldenburg.
