Hiking Highlight (Segment)
The longest open-air gallery is in Friedrichshain and has existed since 1990. 118 artists painted their works on the hinterland wall between Oberbaumbrücke and Ostbahnhof along a distance of almost one and a half kilometres. The Wall still bears witness to the hopes and exuberant joy that was felt everywhere in Berlin shortly after the Wall came down. In 2009 the individual works were renovated again by the artists and the gallery has been a listed building ever since.

The East Side Gallery is a 1.3 km stretch of the Berlin Wall that has been painted by over 100 international artists. It is the longest surviving piece of the Berlin Wall and an important site reflecting the history of Berlin and the Cold War.The East Side Gallery was created after the Wall came down in 1989 when the border fortifications were opened. Artists painted the wall in 1990 and 1991 as a symbol of freedom and peace. The images on the wall are colourful, lively and reflect the hope and optimism that prevailed at the time.Today, the East Side Gallery is a major draw for visitors wanting to experience Berlin's history and culture. You can visit the wall and admire the impressive paintings that deal with different themes such as freedom, peace and unity. The Wall is also an important place to remember Berlin's and Europe's divided past. There are also many other attractions near the East Side Gallery, including the Oberbaum Bridge and Treptower Park. The area is also easily accessible by public transport and offers many activities and sights to suit all tastes.

In the summer, especially on the weekends, it is difficult to see everything as it is very crowded. I recommend a visit during the week and better come in autumn or spring.

Approx. 1 km long art on the Berlin Wall - you have to see it, some very beautiful and some very abstract art.

That's the name of a bar that opened up here on the Mercedes-Benz-Platz. And lives up to its name - a great view, in good weather to the Teufelsberg, to Lichtenrade or to Tempelhof. But the immediate area with the Easy Side Gallery is more than worth seeing.
