city It was to turn the day into one of the blackest in Stade's history. The act happened on September 16, 1935, right after the Nuremberg Nazi Party Rally. SA and SS men chased Pastor Johann Gerhard Behrens, who worked in Stade, across Stade. A poster with the inscription "I am a Jewish slave" hung around his neck. On his difficult ordeal through Stade, the pastor was insulted, spat on and showered with water, and representatives of the Hitler Youth demanded that the pastor be sent to a concentration camp.
