Lake Starnberg (until 1962: Würmsee) is a lake in Bavaria, 25 kilometers southwest of Munich. The lake is after Lake Constance, the Müritz, the Chiemsee and Lake Schwerin the fifth largest lake in Germany, but due to its large average depth, the second-richest in water. It forms the homonymous municipality Starnberger See in the district of Starnberg. The lake is the property of the Free State of Bavaria, for whose administration the Bavarian administration of the state castles, gardens and lakes is responsible.
