The Holy Cross Church is a former Roman Catholic parish church in the Keyenberg district of Erkelenz in the Heinsberg district in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was built in two phases in 1866 and between 1912 and 1913 according to plans by Friedrich von Schmidt. The church was profaned on November 28, 2021.
The building is entered under number 178 in the list of monuments in Erkelenz, but is to be demolished after 2026, as it is to make way for the Garzweiler opencast mine, like the entire town of Keyenberg.

Due to the coal compromise, the Keyenberg church remains standing.

"The path that takes us to the village is muddy, the image of the rural idyll at the small moated castle Haus Keyenberg soon turns out to be deceptive, as does the tranquility that prevails in the village.
The "saved" Keyenberg is too quiet, swept empty; the parish church "Holy Cross" was profaned in 2021; in the alley "An St. Kreuz" the shutters are all lowered, showing that nobody lives here anymore.
This dystopia becomes even clearer through the destroyed car wrecks that stand in front of some house entrances. Oddly enough, some lawns seem to have been mowed. Maybe the resettlement is coming up soon, we don't know.
Dive straight from the orphaned Plektrudisstraße into the very special forest, into the "Our All Forest". (unserallerwald.noblogs.org)
