Old trees give the old cemetery a park character. Very beautiful and worth seeing.

From 1807 to 1813 Osnabrück was part of the Napoleonic rule. In 1804, Napoleon banned burials within city walls. That was progress, the burial places in the cities were overloaded and caused hygienic risks.
Osnabrück implemented this in 1808, today's Johannisfriedhof and today's Hasefriedhof were founded in front of the city walls.
The oldest and still existing grave sites of the Hasefriedhof date from this time. 200 years of grave culture can be experienced here, including family graves with small mausoleums.
Today the cemetery is a listed building, the last burial was in 1995. Next to the mourning hall, a plaque provides detailed information about the history. A trust foundation is committed to maintaining the facility and provides information about an event program. The tours are very exciting:
