Please check local regulations for: Peak District National Park
When you’re standing in the midst of this bleak moorland, it might be hard to imagine that you’re actually at the highest point of any UK city. After all, there are no buildings in sight. However, High Stones is indeed the highest point of the City of Sheffield, at 1,798 feet (548 m). Lying on Howden Moors in the High Peak area of the Peak District National Park, it sits on the edge of the moor, high above the stunning Upper Derwent Valley with Howden Reservoir sparkling below.
You can reach the summit from almost any direction as the moor is open access land as well as home to a network of trails, footpaths and bridleways. From the reservoir, you can ascend easily up Howden or Cranberry Clough. For a longer adventure, Langsett Reservoir, Stocksbridge or Ladybower Reservoir are good starting points. The moor is exposed and takes on a different character in every season.

Lovely spot, small cairn to mark High Stones/Howden Edge. Lovely rugger moorland views, no jagged peaks here just bleak moorland...but beautiful on a sunny day like today!
