✊ Trespass and The Haddon Estate Lockout at River Lathkill! 🌳 What a day for responsible Right to Roam action! We trespassed along the beautiful River Lathkill and showed exactly why access isn't a luxury, it's a right. It was a super chill experience, and we left a positive trace by collecting a couple of bags of litter! 🗑️ We spotted such rich wildlife too: a heron, ducks, a red kite, and even a woodcock! 🦢 The river itself ignores fences flooding into nearby fields, showing how ridiculous these boundaries are! The Haddon Estate: Exclusion on a Massive Scale 🏰 The action today was on land connected to the Haddon Estate. This estate, whose history of ownership by the Vernon and then Manners families dates back over 900 years (transferring to the Manners family in the late 16th Century via marriage), is a huge landowner in the Peak District Total Size: The Haddon Estate owns approximately 3,800 acres of Derbyshire land. River Lockout: Crucially, it controls 21 miles of riverbank along the Derwent, Wye, Lathkill, and Bradford rivers. Despite this huge landholding, river access for the public is virtually non-existent. We shouldn't have to hop a fence or pay a licence fee to enjoy and connect with nature that is fundamentally shared. The views are obscured and the river is reserved mainly for anglers, while we can't even see the water from the public path! This exclusion causes anger and disconnects us from what should be our inheritance. The Vision for Right to Roam ✨ The government's proposed nine river walks completely miss the point. We're not after a few token stretches; we want total and unconditional access to land and water, just like in Scotland! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Right to Roam is demanding: A Right to Roam recognised in UK law. Inspiration for others to assert their rights and connect with the land. A shift away from exclusion and private property as the default. We are part of nature, and nature is part of us. Let's keep walking, keep trespassing, and keep building this movement! It's time to win our rights! #RightToRoam #Trespass #RiverLathkill #HaddonEstate #Sheffield #AccessIsARight #OpenTheLand #ResponsibleAccess
