The Dreilägerbach dam, which was built between 1909 and 1911, is located between Roetgen and Rott. The reservoir behind the 38 meter high and 240 meter long dam has a capacity of 4.25 million cubic meters. An undisturbed hike around the drinking water dam is particularly attractive in the southern area. On the surrounding hiking parking lots you will find hiking boards and signposted circular hiking trails. eifel.info/a-dreilaegerbachtalsperre

The dam of the dam was built from 1909 to 1911 (or 1912) according to the Intze principle. The gravity dam consists for the most part of stamped concrete; the upper area (about 6 m) was made of quartzite quarry stones. There are no vertical joints in the wall. On the water side was originally a wedge-shaped Erd-Vorschüttung (Intze wedge). The upper half of the wall was provided with a seal, which was protected by a veneer. Laterally a wing dam is arranged. In the years 1990 to 1993, the wall was renovated. She got a check on the water side and an attachment shell. The wall was also widened and the wall volume increased.

I can only agree with @Bernd. The descent is particularly slippery when wet, people with knee problems should use an alternative descent.

At the foot of the dam, the water extraction and processing company Nordeifel mbH (WAG) operates a treatment plant that processes the water from the dam system in the northern Eifel and feeds it as drinking water into the pipeline network of the STAWAG (city of Aachen) and enwor (district of Aachen and district of Heinsberg) pumps. A large part of the city and the district of Aachen as well as the district of Heinsberg are supplied with drinking water from here.
In order to secure the water supply, the Dreilägerbachtalsperre is connected to the Kalltalsperre and the Rurtalsperre via tunnels. Source: eifelfuehrer.de/touristische-ziel/stauseen/dreilaegerbachtalsperre
