be-MINE is the name for the renewed coal mine site of Beringen-Mijn. The renovation and repurposing is not quite finished yet. For example, work is being done on the second shaft and there are still a few buildings to go. In November 2022, a renewed permit application was also made for an allotment project on the site and an environmental permit was also applied for for the be-NATURE project. "That is a project for part of the former mining site, namely at the coal washing plants." But be-MINE has already become a household name for many holidaymakers. In addition to the shopping boulevard that people from the wider region know, there are the slag heaps, one of which has numerous extras for young people (adventure mountain), hikers and cyclists (mountain bike routes). There is a mining museum, an indoor climbing center, a swimming pool and sports facility, a diving and snorkeling center (TODI), catering and much more. Moreover, there is a remnant of the coal track along which the coal used to be transported to the Albert Canal and that route is also quite worthwhile. In short: plenty to do for everyone.
