This is a former pagan place of worship. Lorsch monks built here in 1350 a chapel, which was destroyed and rebuilt several times. At the beginning of the 18th century, the pilgrimage site on Kreuzberg was cared for by a hermitage; However, this was abandoned in 1808 and demolished along with the chapel. Today, there are fourteen cast-iron station pictures depicting the Passion of Jesus and an altar cross.

The Kreuzberg, popularly known as “Zur Eich”, is the local mountain of Hemsbach in the 340 m above sea level, which only got its name in the 14th century.
Lorsch monks built a chapel here, which was destroyed several times or in need of renovation. From the beginning of the 18th century, the pilgrimage site was looked after by a hermitage. After the last hermits left, the hermitage was abandoned in 1808. The chapel and hermitage no longer exist, but fourteen cast iron station pictures and an altar cross bear witness to the place of pilgrimage, a meeting place. An important written document for the pilgrims is an indulgence letter from the Reichstag in Worms in 1521. It mentions the “Chapel of the Holy Cross to the Oak on the Mountain near Hemsbach”.
