The Marterl at Massenricht it was set up out of gratitude in earlier times, when an accident had been endured and went well for those involved, is also called the Schwabenmartel. The bench next to the Marterl invites you to linger, as you have a beautiful view of the Upper Palatinate, and when the weather is nice you can see Parkstein and Rauhen Kulm.

The story of Johann Meyer (old Schwabn) is told at station 9 of the "Geological Expedition" circular route - the Schwabnmarterl and the Seugast quarries. When the oxen of his cart went through the old Schwabn was thrown from the wagon, but remained unharmed. Out of gratitude he had this torture put down.
