This watermill used to be part of the craft zone of the abbey, which also includes a bakery, a brewery, a hides factory and a number of workshops with accommodation for the servants. Only the mill and the miller's house (the "fisherman's house") remain. After a thorough restoration of the mill building by Herita, the mill mechanism was also completely rebuilt by Molenzorg Zuid-Limburg. The watermill is now ready to grind again. That immediately gives the Abbey Mill an extra dimension.

Self-reliance was very important to the Cistercians. The abbey had a craft area with a water mill, a bakery, a hide factory and a number of workshops with accommodation for the service personnel. Only the abbey mill and the modest miller's house (the so-called fisherman's house) remain.
The fisherman's cottage is now used by the workers who maintain the garden and green areas of the abbey site.
The abbey mill is now milling again. Every 3rd Sunday of the month, the volunteers of Molenzorg Zuid-Limburg are happy to explain.

On the bridge next to the abbey mill you can see the water wheel that powers the mill. It has been restored in recent years. Grain is milled here again. Every third Sunday of the month the mill doors open and you can watch demonstrations.
