Contrary to what the name suggests, the Großalmeyer castle is not a building. Castle-like rock formations were formerly referred to as the castle; around 1600 a farm owner from Kirchl near Hohenau bore the name Almeyr. The 1196 meter high Großalmeyer castle protrudes well beyond the surrounding forest areas. The crevices that formed during the weathering process are now populated by specialized ferns and lichens, the occurrence of which is of Europe-wide importance. From the summit you can not only look into the apron of the national park, but also around the Lusengipfel.

The Hohlstein is a mountain in the Bavarian Forest National Park southeast of the Lusen high above the Reschbachtal and is known by the locals as "Großalmeyerschloß" or "Schlössl". It is 1,196 m high.
Very nice view towards Lusen - ascent via a small stone staircase.

Summit cross of the Hohlsteins only 10 minutes from Tummelplatz. Small climbing insert (easy) necessary but definitely worth it. If you continue in the direction of Mauth, you can continue across the forest and return to the Goldsteig route.
