In addition to the treetop path, the Lusen National Park Center also offers a beautifully landscaped outdoor animal area. Since it is relatively extensive with a circular route of around seven kilometers, it is also ideal for an extended Sunday walk. You should take three to four hours to do this. Two abbreviations reduce the distance to three kilometers and the walking time to around one and a half hours. If you want to see lynx, wolf, wild cat, otter, bison, bear and many other animals up close, you really get your money's worth here. In contrast to any zoo, you can tell here that the animal enclosures were made for the animals and not for the visitors. Highly recommended!

Plus point: paths are cleared and split up in winter.

    Opening times and prices:
    Free entry all year round.

Patience and attention, the animals are often very close and not deterred by the visitors.

The animal outdoor area is recommended at any time of the year; In the animal free area you can see all the animals that used to be at home in the Bavarian Forest and some of them are now again. Due to the size of the enclosure, not all animals can always be seen and you should therefore bring plenty of time with you (the necessary portion of luck is of course also included).
The animal outdoor area is very popular with photographers and if you want to take photos you should be equipped with enough focal length because of the spacious enclosures.

    Animal outdoor area
"Lynx, hawk owls, wolves, bison, otters, bears or capercaillie: experience the typical wild animals that are and were native to the Bavarian Forest in the ANIMAL OUTDOOR. In the midst of the emerging forest wilderness you can find around 40 species of mammals and birds on over 200 hectares The animals are housed in spacious, natural enclosures and aviaries. So almost like in the wild - including many retreats for the animal inhabitants. A seven-kilometer circular route, for which you should take three to four hours, invites you to A discovery tour. Shortcuts are possible. The area is suitable for prams and wheelchairs, cleared in winter and freely accessible all year round. "

Absolutely worthwhile; In the animal free area, there are all the animals to see that were once native in the Bavarian Forest and it is now partly again. Due to the enclosure size, not all animals are always visible and you should therefore bring a lot of time (of course the necessary amount of luck is also included).

To the lynx, wolf and moose ...
    and owls, bears and otters

You will find one of the most beautiful and interesting visitor facilities in the Bavarian Forest right next to Neuschönau. On an area of around 250 hectares between Neuschönau and Altschönau you will find the large animal open-air area of the Bavarian Forest National Park, in which around 40 different bird and mammal species from the local fauna live in 16 large enclosures and aviaries. In the spacious landscape enclosures (pure enclosure area approx. 40 hectares) with natural habitat backdrops, the residents can live according to their own daily rhythm - running, climbing, bathing, sleeping and even completely withdrawing.

Informative boards on the enclosures also provide a lot of interesting information about the residents of the animal open-air area.
