The Bavarian Forest National Park in the Inner Bavarian Forest lies on the border with the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1970 as Germany's first national park in the Freyung - Grafenau district and has an area of around 24,250 hectares. Domestic mixed mountain forests, firs, beeches and spruces are protected. Many rare animal species were also reintroduced, such as the lynx, European wildcat, red deer, and the wolf, also the capercaillie, as well as the owl and Kautz. The open game enclosure is beautifully laid out in size, and is very interesting to visit, it is free of charge, and you should plan a day.

In addition to the treetop path, the Lusen National Park Center also offers a beautifully landscaped outdoor animal area. Since it is relatively extensive with a circular route of around seven kilometers, it is also ideal for an extended Sunday walk. This should take you three to four hours. Two shortcut variants reduce the route to three kilometers and the walking time to around one and a half hours. If you want to see lynx, wolf, wildcat, otter, bison, bear and many other animals up close, you really get your money's worth here. Unlike any zoo, you can tell here that the animal enclosures are made for the animals and not for the visitors. Highly recommended!

Plus point: paths are cleared and split in winter.
