Lynx, owls, wolves, bison, otters, bears or capercaillie: In the midst of the emerging forest wilderness, around 40 species of mammals and birds can be observed on over 200 hectares. The animals are housed in spacious, natural enclosures and aviaries. Almost like in the wild - including many retreats for the animal inhabitants. A seven-kilometer circular route, for which you should take three to four hours, invites you to go on a discovery tour. Abbreviations are possible. The area is suitable for prams and wheelchairs, cleared in winter and freely accessible all year round.Note: There are no fixed feeding times.

On this easy tour we discover a real jungle area, the Hans-Watzlik-Hain, with the largest fir in the Bavarian Forest and other huge old trees. The Schwellhäusl entices you to stop with Bavarian-Bohemian cuisine and is idyllically located on the Schmalzbach threshold. The path leads over the Hochbergsattel and through wild national park forests to Bayerisch Eisenstein and back to the starting point.

This path awakens the desire for hiking and for discovering the wild forest nature in the Bavarian Forest National Park for children from the age of 4. At the stream, in a small shelter, at the small rock formation on the Ochsenriegel, there are enough opportunities to play so that it doesn't get boring on the way. The 'Crayfish' circular route is certified by the German Hiking Association in the 'Family fun' category.

With snowshoes it is a very exhausting tour through the wintry national park forests around the mountain village of Waldhäuser. Passing the legendary Teufelsloch we go to the old Triftsanlage Martinsklause and on to the Glasarche on the southwest slope of the Lusen before we return to the starting point in Waldhäuser.
