Saint Lawrence, to whom this church in Iversheim is consecrated, is one of the early Christian martyrs from a time when Christianity was still forbidden. He was archdeacon of the Pope and had been asked by the pagan emperor to hand over the treasure to the church. Laurentius asked for three days' time, meanwhile distributed the church property among the poor inhabitants of Rome and after the agreed time came with the poor to the emperor in order to present them to him as the treasure of the church. Thereupon he was martyred to death, legend has it that he was alive on a grate - this attribute can be seen in many depictions of St. Lawrence - roasted over coals. He is said to have been of good cheer and told his executioner, on the one hand, whether he would not turn it around.
The feast day of St. Lawrence in the saints calendar is August 10th.

The village of Iversheim already had a chapel in the 9th century. The oldest documented church dates from the 11th / 12th century. It was a hall building with a clear width of 5 x 10 m with a conical choir. In 1768 the church and the choir were expanded and the tower was rebuilt. The current church was built in the late classicist style in 1847/1848. The west tower from 1768 was retained. The hall building has a wooden barrel vault. The interior was decorated in the baroque-classical tradition. In certain partial forms one recognizes Romanesque models. Inside there are two wooden statues from the 15th century. They represent Saint Anthony and the Evangelist Johannes. In the north side altar there is a finely carved Mother of God with a writing Jesus child (comes from the area of the Middle Rhine or Cologne from approx. 1420/30). The crown of Mother Mary and the inkwell have unfortunately been lost. The color scheme of the statue is well preserved. Source: eifelverein-bam.de/lexikon/st-laurentius

The Madonna in the parish church is a gift from the parish of St. Marien to the then pastor Karl Kremer on the occasion of his 40th anniversary as a priest in 1968. The Madonna dates from the 17th century, probably from the Venice region. It was acquired by a collector in Switzerland. laurentius-gl.de/kirchen/st-marien/madonnen-statue
