The former Reuhelberg, which consists of several hilltops, was named after the red beer brewer Georg Schmaus (1619-1682), who bought the site from the city of Nuremberg in 1670. Until the incorporation of Brunn (407 m), the Schmausenbuck was the highest elevation in the Nuremberg city area.
