Anyone who wants to escape the noise of the city will eventually find it: this place, which the locals say is "really nothing special." A sandy embankment, a bit of shade from the willows, a drifting view over the Havel River that opens your heart like a freshly aired attic.

In summer, you lug a towel and two bottles of water here; in winter, a thermos of tea and a thick scarf are enough to escape the world for a moment. The wind caresses the water, the sailboats seem like dreamed thoughts. And anyone who has ever experienced the sunset, as the last light tilts westward over the treetops, knows: no cell phone reception here will ever replace the effect this view has on you.

The bench where it all began is no longer there. What remains is the place. And anyone who sits down—on a backpack, a rock, or simply in the sand—quickly realizes: It doesn't take much to stay. You just have to allow it.
On a beautiful evening, I found myself here to enjoy the view of the water. It's a great place to find peace and relaxation.
