Here you have direct access to the Kühren pond and beautiful views. This is also where the (nameless?) Stream flows, which connects the Kühren pond with the Lanker See.
The approximately 30 hectares large and on average only half a meter deep Kühren pond is surrounded by extensive reed beds and quarry forest zones near the bank. There are three tree-lined islands in the pond. The Kühren pond is connected to the Lanker See, which is located somewhat north, via a stream. The grassland areas northwest of the Kuehren pond were additionally wet in the course of the protection. They are grazed extensively for care with Galloway cattle. The nature reserve is the habitat of numerous water and meadow birds. Numerous duck birds such as Schnatter, Krick, Spoon and Knäkente are at home here. In addition, bittern, reed and percussion whip, sprout, nightingale, reed warbler and marsh harrier as well as black-necked and red-necked grebes can be found here. The red-necked grebe is one of the most important in Schleswig-Holstein, and the sea eagle uses the area to search for food. Lapwings, greenshanks, dark sandpipers and woodpeckers, as well as other waders, keep visiting the area.In the nature reserve there is an observation hut from which the Kuehren pond can be seen as well as an observation platform from which the wet grassland area can be seen. Both observation points are located directly on the bike / hiking trail.dewiki.de/Lexikon/K%C3%BChrener_Teich_und_Umlassung
