A forest road now runs past the former landslide site, but access to the landslide area is prohibited. Along the forest road, there are several seating areas offering beautiful views of the Albtrauf and the surrounding landscape.

The Mössingen-Öschingen landslide happened after a long period of heavy rain at the end of May to the beginning of June 2013. The area is on the Albtrauf, more precisely on the south-southwest slope of the Dachslochberg below the Roßberg. It was one of the deadliest landslides in decades, almost burying the small settlement below the slope.

        Landslide "Mössingen-Öschingen" (country house settlement)
After prolonged heavy rainfall, especially from May 31, 2013 to June 2, 2013, with up to 160 mm of precipitation and above-average wet months in the preceding months, a landslide occurred on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at around 8 p.m. on the Albtrauf in the Mössingen-Öschingen district below the Roßberg in the Dachslochberg and Roßstaig areas. (In analogy to the previous use of the term in connection with the “Mössingen-Öschingen” event, the term landslide is still used. According to the definition, it is a landslide.) Over a length of around 500 m and a width of up to 300 m, around half a million cubic metres of soil and rock masses have moved downhill over an area of over nine hectares. According to the findings of the drilling carried out, the depth of the sliding surfaces varies between a few metres and 17 m below the ground surface (average 7–10 m). In the erosion area (slide), in the upper third of the landslide, the surface of the land is now up to 13 metres lower than the former slope surface. In contrast, in the deposition area (slide), in the lower two thirds of the slope movement, the soil and rock masses that have slid down have accumulated up to 10 metres above the original surface of the land.

The event can be understood as the reactivation of a slope movement that is probably centuries or millennia old.
