On April 1, 1907, the day of the unification of the two municipalities of Nowawes and Neuendorf, the clinker building - called the Goethe House - in Scharnhorststraße (later Stephensonstraße) was inaugurated as a Realgymnasium. The school was the first "school palace" (the second is the Beethoven school) and one of the most beautiful and modern buildings in Nowawes.

Hiking

When I started school there in 1954, it was still a girls' school, while the neighboring Beethoven School was for boys. It was only in the following years that the sexes mixed, which was also the educational policy of the GDR from the very beginning.
