The oldest mention of Ettendorf and its church dates back to the year 1120. St. Vitus and Anna was the destination of a pilgrimage up until the 19th century, traceable back to the first half of the 13th century.

The small church is located to the east, just outside Ettendorf, which belongs to the municipality of Surberg, in the north of Traunstein. The hill with St. Vitus and Anna can be seen from the center of Traunstein. The Rosenheim-Salzburg railway line runs just a few steps to the south, so the little church is easy to see for travelers on this route.
History and building: The oldest mention of Ettendorf and its church dates back to 1120. Until the 19th century, St. Vitus and Anna was the destination of a pilgrimage, which can be traced back to the first half of the 13th century.
The building that is still visible today dates from the late Gothic period of the 15th century. The nave - three-bay with a steep roof truss by Master Martein from Haunerting - and the tower from the 1470s are younger than the strongly recessed choir, according to the inscription "1431" found there. During the construction of the nave, the choir was given a net rib vault. The altar was consecrated before the current nave was built - on May 20, 1451 by Silvester Pflieger. The onion dome crowning the tower was added in 1726 by master mason Johann Modlhammer and master carpenter Anton Rungraber from Traunstein.
