The small, detached Fort C was designed as a modern, independent part of the Minden station fortification. The strategic task of the upstream Fort C was to prevent enemy troops from approaching the southern valley front of the fortification. Fort C is a prime example of the New Prussian style of fortress construction. After the Prussian annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover in 1866, the Minden fortress and thus the forts lost their right to exist and were abandoned in 1873. Most of the fortifications were demolished in the following years.

Fort C of the three forts around the train station has been completely preserved and may serve as a model for the New Prussian manner of the fortress construction. It guarded the exit of the railway towards Cologne. Fort C is now a branch of the Prussian Museum. In addition, Fort C is used as a company quarters by the 1st community company of the Minden community battalion as part of the Minden free shooting. Of the two other forts, only the reduits have survived. They secured the exits of roads and trains towards Bremen, Hanover and Berlin. Today they are used as office and storage rooms.

Fort C is not always open to the public.

      Fort C

Is one of a total of 3 forts that the Cöln-Minderer-Eisenbahngesellschaft (CME) should protect. By 1870, 70 locomotives were in use. Fort C is probably the most fully preserved fort.

These had to be taken care of. There were also army bakeries and the food magazine.

Fort C is almost completely preserved.

It was built to oversee the 1847 railway line.
