Bike Touring Highlight
No matter what time of year. A visit to the Kaiser is always worthwhile. The exhausting driveway is rewarded with a magnificent view.
Since the renovation in mid-2018, you can dine well in the restaurant and get an insight into the history of the mountain / monument.
There is also a new kiosk on the parking lot level, which covers the necessary items.
A little tip from me:
In the summer months it is very crowded during normal visiting times, so it is better to start up in the morning or in the evening.

You have a fantastic view in frost and a high in winter. You can see several kilometers away. Basically, it is advisable not to visit this place at the end of the turnout if possible, as there is always a lot of activity here. Alternatively, I recommend the early morning or evening hours. A visit can be combined very well with a tour of the Weser.

My impressions are positive
Because I was often there as a child, I can form an opinion about Wilhelm, as he is called today. For more than 7 years I have been riding my bike about 2000 km a year. Many trips have taken me to the Kaiser Wilhelm on the Wiehenberg in Porta Westfalica. It is most beautiful at 22-23 degrees and sunshine. Finally, it is possible to look from Wilhelm to Stadthagen when the weather is clear. The newly designed forecourt offers benches and plenty of space to recover from the exertion of cycling or from walking uphill.
The modernity of such a monument stands or falls if you include the given environment. There used to be a kiosk with souvenir cards, today there is a great exhibition. If you would like to have a coffee in the café or let yourself be pampered with other delicious things. The new sun terrace invites you to linger. You can enjoy the panoramic view over the North German Plain.
A visit to Porta should be something for every history lover
I will continue to visit Wilhelm. It belongs to the Minden-Lübbecke mill district as well as the mills and the beautiful half-timbered houses from different centuries. Just stop at the Kaiser Wilhelm in Porta. And see for yourself. What began in 1892 with Bruno Schmitz in honor of an emperor was ended in 2018 with the architecture firm Peter Bastian.Do not forget to like and share ;-)You can find more on my blogfahrradontour.de/kaiser-wilhelm-porta
