The Invalidenhaus Berlin (today Invalidenhaus Berlin Foundation) looks back on 250 years of tradition. It is one of the oldest institutions for war victims in the German-speaking area. The settlement was built at that time as living space or to supply people.

Here in the Invalidensiedlung, the spirit of July 20th prevails. You can't teach that to the children as easily as the wall that ran right past it. How was it here before? Before the wall, shortly before the end of World War II?

Officers and their families who were disabled during the First World War lived in the 49 houses with dark clinker facades. Relief works with dates and place names that refer to battles in the Silesian War are located above each house entrance. From 1945 the settlement was cordoned off. Today it is a very livable residential area.
