Burglesau is a village in the Bavarian district of Bamberg, which has belonged to the town of Scheßlitz since the 1978 regional reform. As of March 31, 2005, Burglesau had 203 residents.
Burglesau was first mentioned in documents in 1290 as "reading" in a gift contract of the Countess Agnes von Truhendingen in favor of the Langheim Cistercian Monastery, founded in 1133. The name reading is probably of Slavic origin and means forest village.
From 1520 the place was mentioned in addition to the spellings "Lesau" and "Lesaw" also as "Burglesau". Remains of the Celts settlement probably added the addition Burg.
