The Scottish Highland Cattle is an ancient breed of cattle that was originally only found in Scotland and the Hebrides. Since targeted cattle breeding in the UK has been operated, so for about 200 years, this breed is present in an unchanged form and without any cross-pollination of foreign blood.
With its decorative horns that can reach up to 1.60 (and more) span and its exceptionally long hair it captivates every viewer.
With its long coat, it is absolutely winterproof. Rain and wind can not penetrate through the natural fur, even snow remains on the insulated coat.
A special strength of the Highland cow is the calving, mostly without help on the pasture.
The calf is then raised on the udder of the mother cow. Calvings can be carried out without any problems up to the high cow keepers of 15 to 20 years. Highland cattle are very good natured and relaxed.
They develop with regular contact a very personal relationship with their owner. Important are the small delicacies, such as dry bread or bread, an apple, carrots and cereal bread.
Then they literally eat "out of hand"! The love of highland cattle just goes through the rumen ;-).
