Zuzenhausen Castle is the ruin of a hilltop castle at around 160 m above sea level above the southern outskirts of the municipality of Zuzenhausen. Today it can only be identified as an overgrown ruin. It probably originated in the second half of the 13th century. The hill castle is a pentagonal complex with a mighty shield wall, but it probably never had a keep. After several expansions in the middle of the 16th century, the castle was the seat of the Lords of Venningen. In the Thirty Years' War the complex was destroyed by the Bavarians in 1643 and in the Palatinate War of Succession in 1689 by the French. The ruin has since been used as a quarry. The impressive shield wall, 3.6 meters thick and 20 meters high, as well as parts of the ring wall, cellar vaults and remains of the building have been preserved. The inside of the castle is not accessible, but there is a path along one side.

Unfortunately, the area is completely cordoned off. But if you are in the area anyway, it is worth taking a detour.
