Roque de Agando, with an altitude of 1,246 meters, is an ancient volcanic chimney that has been exposed due to millions of years of erosion. This rock is one of the most impressive in the Canary Islands and is frequently used as a symbol of the island of La Gomera. Roque Agando is the most prominent of a group of volcanic pitons known as Los Roques, which are located near the center of the island. Other rocks in this group include Roque Ojila and Roque Zarcita, and sometimes Roque Carmona and Roque Las Lajas are also included.
