The family of the Barons von Wangenheim resided in the castle in Mitteldorf until the end of the 18th century. The former castle district is now a lovingly tended park from which the castle ruins still proudly rise. Here you can linger and relax after a hike or bike ride between the flower beds or at the moat.Interesting background:
One of its dogs became almost as famous as the noble family: Stuczel. According to legend, during the Thirty Years' War his noble mistress only entrusted him with dispatches to Gotha. To this day it is left to the imagination whether these had an amorous or even military content. In 1630 the animal was buried and a tombstone was placed just below the castle.
