As the name suggests, the present-day Wallgang was part of the city wall fortifications and protected the city from attacks, along with the gardens that still exist today.The Lippe River has changed its course several times over the centuries; at that time, it flowed directly parallel to the Wallgang, providing additional security.Upon closer inspection, you can still see the subsided area of the old riverbed.

The Wallgang is part of the Lüner Leezenpat, on which you can drive excellently and here even car-free. It's a bit of a pity that almost all the pictures here don't show the Wallgang, but the city center 🤔
