It is one of many medieval castle ruins in the southern Vorharz. It lies 70 meters above the village of Questenberg, at an altitude of 270 meters above sea level.

The hilltop castle was built between 1200 and 1250, probably by the Counts of Beichlingen.

The castle was last used for military purposes in 1633, when it served as quarters for a company of war soldiers fighting against the Harz Riflemen by the war commissioner Valenthin Rothmehler. The castle was already described as desolate during the Peasants' War. By 1649 the castle had already fallen into such disrepair that only a few cellars were usable.

Worth seeing castle ruins above the town of Questenberg. It is not particularly easy to reach via very steep paths. The remains of the wall offer a great photo backdrop. We particularly like pictures in the archway, through which you can see the quest opposite. The ruins are freely accessible. Be careful, there is a risk of falling on all sides.
