In 1938, the German Air Force claimed the area near Reinsehlen to set up an air base, for which a 250-hectare area was designated. The airfield served as a training and operational airfield. He wore the code name Posemuckel.
Today, the Alfred Toepfer Academy for Nature Conservation and a restaurant "Gasthaus" still share one of the former military administration buildings on the site.
