Best Hikes to Idstedt Robber’s Cave Megalithic Tomb

Tips

  • The Idstedt Robbers' Cave is a megalithic grave whose interior can be climbed. The chamber is about 4 m long, almost 2 m wide and as high as a dining table. A short plank staircase leads up from the K 44 next door. There is a bench at the top for a break.

  • The name “Idstedt Robbers’ Cave” seems misleading at first – after all, the place is not a cave or a real hideout for robbers, but a Neolithic megalithic tomb, a so-called dolmen.

  • The Idstedter Robber's Cave (Danish: Røverhulen) is one of the few passage graves in Schleswig-Holstein that is still in good condition. It is a plant of the Funnel Beaker Culture (TBK), which lived between 3,500 and 2,800 BC. arose.

It is located south of the town of Idstedt in an approximately 2.5 meter high round hill with a diameter of over 17 meters in a confusing right-hand bend in the Arenholzfeld road from Schleswig to Idstedt. Coming from Schleswig, 150 meters behind the "Wilhelmslust" junction on the right of the road, about 10 meters in the forest.
