Under the rule of the Danish king Waldemar I, the Danewerk was massively expanded in the early Middle Ages. Over three and a half kilometers, the original mound was reinforced in the south with an almost two-meter-wide brick wall. At this point a part of the wall was uncovered.

This wall is approx. 850 years old. It is the largest and one of the oldest brick buildings in Northern Europe. King Waldemar the Great of Denmark 🇩🇰 had this wall built.

Under the rule of the Danish king Waldemar I, the Danework was massively expanded in the High Middle Ages. For almost four kilometers to the south, the wall was additionally reinforced with a five to seven meter high brick wall. At this point, part of the ruined wall was exposed.
